One of the special architectural features of the Sanomatalo building is the double-wall facade. This means that a lift platform can rescue people from balconies, but not windows. This complex facade, which comprises numerous criss-cross struts and cantilevers, also makes the balconies difficult to reach. A rescue vehicle has to be in exactly the right place, to an accuracy of millimetres, if the attempt is to succeed. Places for the tyres ought to be marked on the ground.
