Act on the formation of rescue service areas approved, Juhani Katajamäki
The act seeks to improve the use of rescue service resources by reorganizing services into larger units. Concentrating the administration, acquisitions, technical systems, rescue equipment and other resources into larger units will improve the standard of services. The bigger staff numbers will also enable specialization in different tasks such as planning, accident prevention, training and other special skills.

The November storm kept the fire brigades busy. High winds blew trees down in many parts of the country. Some households were without electricity for almost a week. Pictured here is Marjaniemi contract fire brigade removing a fallen tree from a power line in Helsinki late at night. Photo: Lehtikuva.
